Fernando Da Silva
Fernando Da Silva is a contemporary artist born in Uruguay, who immigrated with his family to New Haven, Connecticut in 1984. From an early age, Da Silva gravitated towards creative expression, leading him to enroll at Paier College of Art to study graphic design while still retaining a passion for painting and drawing. Following his education, he built a successful career in artistic direction, where he applied his interests in contemporary art movements to conceptualizing packaging and brand design. Through his career, however, painting remained a constant thread of passion in his creative life.
Now fully focused on his fine art practice, Da Silva maintains a studio practice in the Northeast and exhibits his work across the United States. His body of work takes inspiration from historical architecture, theories of formal and conceptual design, and modern art movements such as synthesism, constructivism, and impressionism. His Unsung Cities series emerges from reflections on cross-cultural divides and the necessity of constructing identity within landscapes despite initial unfamiliarity.
