Megan Milani (b. 1995) is a mixed-media artist whose work explores relationships with intuition, memory, form, and function. Born and raised in New Orleans and based in Brooklyn, Milani’s work reflects the dynamic contrasts of life and creates physicality from the subconscious.
Her training as an engineer predisposes her consciousness towards structure and balance. Yet, her art shatters these rules. Through her creative process, she explores the limitless potential of her own memory to inspire creation. Her experiences and observations inform her use of color and form and synthesize with her scientific expertise to create visually immersive worlds. Bright greens and golds invite the bridges between artificiality and naturalism found in precious metals; jeweled fuchsias and violets mirror the vibrant surprises brought forth by flora and fauna. These colors grow from things as unexpected as bacterial growth to those as intimate as rosy cheeks on a winter’s day.
Milani works with watercolor and ink on cotton paper, and incorporates gauze to demonstrate the fluidity between her artistic identity and scientific responsibilities. What results are works that balance these two worlds- that of science and that of art. Milani testifies to the possibility of achieving balance between worlds that seem irreconcilable. Every day, and with every brushstroke or application, she unlearns rigidity and embraces spontaneity. Inevitably, her art weaves a narrative that speaks implicitly to the beauty and bounty of letting go.

UPCOMING EVENT
Megan Milani- Layered
OPENING FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH, 6:00-8:00 P.M.
Layered debuts new works on paper from Brooklyn-based artist Megan Milani. Each painting starts with a color palette guided by intuition, and a willingness to see what emerges. Layer by layer, a memory takes shape, shifting and settling as the painting comes together. Milani draws from photographs of her home and travels, creating palettes inspired by weathered facades, overgrown gardens, and the small things that reveal themselves when you slow down and look.
Presented at 812 Royal Gallery, Layered comes home to the city where Milani learned to look twice. New Orleans rewards a second glance, and this body of work offers the same experience. The longer you stay with it, the more it gives back. Join us for the opening reception of Layered on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 P.M, to experience the fullness of what’s fleeting.

Megan Milani creates vibrant, layered works that explore the intersection of intuition, pattern, and organic form. Working with fluid color and intricate linework, her compositions unfold like living systems—part botanical, part microscopic landscape. Milani blends watercolor washes, rhythmic marks, and delicate textures to build environments that feel both spontaneous and carefully interconnected. Her work invites viewers to move through the surface slowly, discovering shifting pathways of color, pattern, and gesture that evoke growth, movement, and the quiet complexity of natural forms.
